Apple's cloud storage service, iCloud, is one of the easiest ways to store data for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, covering from music, photos, videos to Apple Watch backups. It's great but don't expect iCloud to backup everything for your iDevice. What does iCloud backup? Does iCloud backup messages after "Messages in iCloud" feature is removed in iOS 11? How to Backup Data in iCloud
1. Set up iCloud to get 5GB of free storage. Tap settings, choose iCloud and enter Apple ID and password. 5GB is far from enough, you'd better know some tips to free up space on iCloud if the iCloud storage gets full and you don't want to buy more iCloud storage.

2. What Does iCloud Not Backup
* iCloud doesn't backup the data already stored in iCloud, such as iCloud Photo Library, My Photo Stream, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, Mail, Notes, photos and videos and other data that are already in iCloud.

1. Does iCloud backup contacts?
Yes, iCloud supports to backup contacts. To backup to iCloud including contacts, connect your iDevice to Wi-Fi network, go to Settings and tap iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.
2. Does iCloud backup text messages?
The answer is Yes. iCloud backup includes messages (iMessage, SMS, MMS). But you can't view them separately because they don't show in the settings. The text message backup will be available if you restore your backup. Note that you can't enjoy the Message in iCloud feature if you've updated to iOS 11, but you can still backup and restore iPhone messages on iCloud.
3. Does iCloud backup apps data?
Apps date is included in the iCloud backup. However, iCloud only backup apps that are not stored in other cloud services.
