"What would be the best way to edit my Homemade DVD on my computer? There are 6 hours of a mixed up compilation of birthdays, Christmas's, reunions, etc. I would like to take some clips for editing and convert them to a format I can email like mpeg or avi or whatever. "
"My dad has just made a DVD of his family videos and wants to cut out a few clips. However, we do not have the file, only the DVD. How can we remove these clips with just the DVD and computer (without the file)?"
In some cases, we will need to edit the video on a DVD to customize the video for sharing or extract a segment for other projects. DVD editing may be a little bit tricky as it's not a digital file, it's a disc. Even the most professional editors like Adobe Premiere Pro will NOT support DVD directly. What you need is a tool that will rip DVD and edit the DVD videos (VOB, MPEG, MKV, others) in one step. Check the post here.
(Note that commercial DVDs have copy protections that prevent you to rip or edit the disc. But it is commonly believed that if you legally own the DVD, you can dispose it for your personal use. Anyway, consult your local law before you do it.)
